Is it made out of a synthetic fabric. If so - that may be best as it may last longer. I was shocked to see that a nappy that I had on top of one of my biofilters virtually disintegrated within a couple of weeks. That's bacterial action for you

VB, cod came from a place at Severnlea near Stanthorpe, were meant to be 60mm which the biggest could be, the one dead one so far was 38mm and is not the smallest I'm sure. I didn't want to stress them too much so just acclimatised and put them in without playing with them too much. Have netted a few while trying to fish out dead gudgeons and they seem healthy but a variation in sizes. Fish farm does cod, sp and gp, cod $1 each, sp and gp 50 cents each from memory so if KE14 goes well I might try gp next time, have just never liked the flavour of silvers.

After a week here's the update on the death toll:
On arrival 4
Day 1- 5
Day 2- 2
Day 3- 2
Day 4- 1
Day 5- 1
Day 6- 1
Day 7- 2
Total 18

The fish seem to be happy, but how can you really tell?
They seem to be feeding on the crushed pellets.
I was told to expect 20-30% loss, I think that's enough now.

Who told you to expect a 20-30% loss. Any fish farm that says that would not be getting my business if selling fingerlings (as opposed to fry - shich you expect a very large loss).

Yah, I'd be making unhappy phone calls. I was so hoping that this GP thing was going to be a success and cause an AP revolution away from the SP...So sad. I REALLY hope you lose no more :-(

That's never going to happen KP. Golden Perch are carnivores. One of the major attractions of silvers and jades (IMHO) is the fact that they are omnivores. As commecial feed gets more and more expensive (which it is bound to) then those growing omnivores will be very pleased with the fact that they can suplement the pellet diet with all sorts of things, including greens grown on site.

Much easier all they way around with omnivores.
Is a 20-30 percent loss really that high with GP?
I'd be happy with those numbers in Yellow Perch.

Still loosing about 2 a day.

Sent an Email to Neil at Aquablue explaining my problems with the transport and the death rate. He rang back straight away and was very helpfull. He said that they cant put 100 x 40mm fish in the same box for a 3 day trip to Adelaide as they will run out of O2. If you put them in 3 seperate boxes then it costs $30 a box for freight. They will sell 40-50mm fish if you pick up or live close enough to freight in less than a day. He will chastise the freight company for leaving the smashed box at the front door in a 41C day. Neil reckons that you will always get a greater survival rate if they are fed live food eg mossie lavae, and he always recommended that I got SP rather than GP.
But the really good news was that he offerred to send me 100 silver perch plus some fish food free of charge to make up for my losses. He was really worried about getting bad publicity/word of mouth. I was blown away and said I would be really happy to give him some good publicity.

So did the fish come road freight? A quick ammonia test on the transport water would have been interesting..

That's great that the company will stand behind their fish and make things right for you. Do you have room for 100 SP?
