I was recently approached by a rep offering a poly alternative to dwv which is actually pressure rated (PN4-5). It looks like it could be a cheaper option than dwv espeacially in the larger diameters.

One of the things that could erode the savings its that we might not be able to use uniseals to make up our manifolds.

Does anyone have or know someone that has experience with uniseals and poly pressure pipe?

Doesn't really matter with the uniseals does it... pressure pipe or dwv... either way, you just push them through the uniseal.... "dontknow"

I've heard that they can not work so well in poly. If you look at the sizing table many of the pipe od s of poly arr out of the specs. So maybe the ones that I had heard had leaked were pipe uniseal combinations that were out of spec or maybe not? The former would be fine we could use some uniseals but not all. The latter mightmean we couldn't use them at all.

Plus the poly would have to be rigid enough the push against the uniseal to actually seal the join.

I used 50mm Uniseal in my swirl filter (which is made out of HD poly, wall thickness about 6mm) and had no problems.

When using the 90mm through the wall of an IBC I found it easier to make longitudinal cuts in the pipe (about 15x15), rather than trying to chamfer the end, and bend them in slightly. Make sure to use dishwashing solution, once the pipe enters slips along easily.

Another alternative if only using up to 25mm is to use a Tophat Fitting.

Think uniseal comes in sizes for pvc/coper/zinc/poly pipes.

do you just get uniseals from bunnings? or are they like a specialty thing?

I get my Uniseal's from a Irrigation/Plumbing Supplier in Tullamarine.. They stock all sizes Which is a a Bonus for me..

So was the 50mm pipe pvc or poly as well? Was the 90mm pipe swpvc?

The minimum wall thickness is 3mm for the smaller pipes making them quite stiff.
