So I have this Big old metal tank in the back yard, and from what I have read in the searches I'd need to coat it with some kind of tar based paint? and give it like 5 coats?

sorry its very difficult to do searches with "metal" in the subject all you get is blue metal.

because the tank is corrugated I think it would be quite difficult to paint and its not quite big enough for me to stand inside comfortably.

please help me with any options and/or insight?

I painted my bathtubs with Brushable Ormonoid - a black bitumen paint safe for drinking water once cured. Not expensive either , a 4L can cost around $30 and I used only half a can to give 2 coats on the insides of 2 bathtubs

its a rubber/plastic liner, you should be able to purchase from any pond shop, get a good quality one and be careful not to puncture it, you should be able to get it made to suit your tank.

The trouble with pond liner via the net is the shipping cost. I bought mine at the local HomeDepot; It wasnt cheap but it has done the job and lasts a lifetime even in the desert sun. But thier heavier stuff, made by Beckett, 15' wide. They have spicing glue also.

My FT and GBs are galv. tanks. I coated with bitumen paint, cheap and easy to apply. I did about 3 coats but should have done a couple more as there are some bare spots on bottem. This may have been wear from sheets of light coloured tin I placed in bottem to give vision of fish in tank though.
I did some research recently and there is a Crommlens product (pond sealer) that comes in a colours which I am hoping to paint FT with. I am hoping it will bond with the Bitumen paint (also Crommlens product). It comes in different colours so am hoping to buy a light coloured one. I havnt looked for in shops but can get no. of Crommlens rep. from a subby at work.
The only prob with the bitumen is that it is black and you cant see fish.

you can't beet pond liner i spent $$$ to paint a fish pond it worked great for a while but will come of in the end :cry: Iput in a pond liner and 8 years later syill hasn't leaked :D

I got some of the crommlelins stuff from Bunnings, it was cheap as bitumen based and blue, rang the rep and she says its food grade so no worries eating the fish.

It also came in sandstone and grey I think
