We designed a tool when building our system, as we were having trouble getting our hands in to work on the standpipes... and at Mantis's suggestion, we thought we had better post it as he thought it was a pretty good idea. Now this only works for standpipes that have an octagonal fitting... and it can cause problems if youve used silicone or similar to seal your GB, because its very easy to overtighten and break the seal... enough talk... first heres some pics of the standpipe...

So the idea is to find a piece of square steel that the PVC pipe your using for the standpipe fits into... then find a bigger piece of steel that the octagonal PVC fitting fits snuggly into... weld together, and add a cross piece as a handle. Took hubby... one night after a few beers , to cut and weld together all up about 15 mins... Hope that helps someone that might be having trouble fitting your hand in to get stones out of your standpipe or dislodging roots or whatever... if you need any more info, or I havent explained well enough, feel free to ask... cheers |
