Personally can't see any problem with it only handling 5mm solids. Others' opinions mayu vary |

Rather than create a new thread I will hijack this one... I am sure rupe won't mind... I am getting a few Black Bream in the next few days to put into my aquarium... Problem is that aquarium is full of swordtails, and it would get 'ugly' if I put the bream in there with them... Long story short I have taken it on board to relocate and revamp my mini system... For the WA people, who has the cheapest retail pumps available? Preferably 12V if possible. Is the B store reasonable... I want to avoid pet stores and fish shops... I have am eheim filter ready to use until the system is ready and cycled, and they are only swordtails for now... |

I got a different pump from them the other week and it seems to be going just fine. Mine is as follows http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=012 sorry about the full address I have forgotten what I was told last week about creating the short version. I got it for $90 plus 17 delivery and with the addition of a ppiece to get the attachment to 40mm plumbing size it is doing quiet well. I also have oneof murrays pump but decided after last power bill that until I need that pure pumping power I was better off going for a smaller pump to save on the power bill. Murrays will come back into action once I expand. |

This is a subject dear to my heart $$$$$  how much did the pump end up costing you to run and we're you running it 24/7?

i don't know exact cost but power bill oter with a lot of ap stuff running increased bill by $400. very highly considering power cost. |

over three months but did have all four systems running with pumps and heaters, so not completely unwarranted. But did open my eyes about the whole thing. The next one will be the real amount as I know have only one pump running. |

It pays in the end to buy quality pumps - mostly those china pumps obtained on "e" do not meet the claimed specifications in either output or power consumption. They only have plastic bearings which flog out quickly. I believe it is false economy to go for a cheap pump, too risky... Muzza |

I just did a simple experiment - I plugged my 70W cheap pump into a watt-hour meter and measure 45W at peak. Now the question is, am I being cheated by now getting as much power out as claimed, or am I getting a freebie in the form of an extra efficient pump? |

bio-farmer: I should measure the (kg/h) * head * 9.8m/s^2 and see how efficient it is wrt the limit. But that would mean dismantling everything. I might do it another day though - it is worth finding out. |
