Hi there ,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a venturi airator diagram?
I hope that question made sense,! :geek:
Kind regards, Skipd.

Oww - In answer to your call out, I braved the outdoors for some photos ...

Oh well *sigh* here you go all the same!

They are pretty rudementary efforts, Skipd, but very effective. Having the venturi inline from GB to FT has meant that I can submerge my GB waste pipes within the FT without it affecting the equalisation pressure of my autosiphons - meaning that I have *almost* silenced any water noises, other than the occassional 'gurgle' as the autosiphon completes its cycle.

These venturis would have cost $2.50 to make - just the cost of a T from 'B'!

There are plenty of other ideas around - your man Pete (pjenkyn) has a nice little model using a pipe end cap as the venturi tooth, and there is a few eeb pages dedicated to venturis - one in particular can be found here

Good luck mate!

Venturis come in so many different shapes and sizes don't they.. Almost as much fun as siphons.

We use a couple of 40mm - 25mm reducing bush's to reduce the size of the pipe, then drill a 3mm hole in the short piece of 25mm pipe. Works surprisingly well, you would think that water would squirt out the whole, and sometimes a little bit does when the pump first starts, but after that it sucks in lots of air..

Ah yes, EB - that's the priciple of [expand -> reduce + add air/tubulence <- expand], right?

Even easier!

Yeah I think it works on the same principle as an aeroplane wing, faster flow through the smaller pipe means a drop in pressure, so it suck in air.. I know some old carburetors used similar principles.

I use a 16mm end cap upside down inside a 25mm T piece with a 13mm hole in the backside away from the direction of flow. Its the second design I have tried, got the design from another member (Pete) and it works unreal. Have it running on the inlet from the pump down to the bottom of the tank, about a meter down and it pumps a lot of air into the water, bubbles all the way to the top.

Cheers for the pics and info BT.
I got to it and used what I could to make my own airator, watch this space for what might just be the dodgyest airator yet. :headbang: gave it a trial run this arvo and seemed to work. leaving overnight for silicone to dry then will give it a run tommorow. :flower:
Ps the underwater bubble pic looks way cool. :thumbright:

Well silicone went off overnight and I reinforced with a bit of electrical tape. Put in line and hey presto. Must give note to Stevesmartt for inner cut out detail, basically wedge cut in bottem of tooth.
Wired paver offcut to end of outlet to hold it underwater, you can just see it in pic.
Outlet is about 2 feet under water.
Tooth is 13mm, main line is 19mm.

Some seeds have germinated, not sure what they are but will have fun guessing.

Looks the goods!

Just keep an eye on the paver in the FT - I had an unsealed brick in mine and it leeched something alkaline and bumped my pH skyward! Best to use a piece of riverrock or granite or an errant child.

What are the small berries on the ground? They look almost like small olives, but it's not olive season yet...
