G'day all,

I'm planning on building a PVC hoop greenhouse, I would like to know has anyone had any success in these or have they failed? Also if anyone has some plans to share that would be great.

Cheers

ivansng has built one from white pvc pipe (i think) and I'm planning on a big one built from black poly pipe (agricultural), real easy to build and once the cross members are in and the cover on (I'll use green shade cloth) it turns into a fairly solid structure :D

What is the black poly called? Where can you get it from? is it stronger?

I get it from work (Elders), it's easier to bend and work with and comes in all different pressure ratings.
The only reason I prefer it over pvc is its flexibility and the fact tek screws work really well with it.....and I lurve tek screws :D

Oh and it's called .....Black poly :thumbleft:

MalcomC over at Murrays forum has made a real spiffy one with 50mm black poly and for cross members half way up each side and along the ridge he used 90mm stormwater pvc. The black poly goes through 63mm holes in the pvc and is screwed from the inside. He then put a smaller pvc pipe along the bottom of each edge, filled with water and end capped. He secured the shadecloth to the pipes so the the water filled pipe holds down the cloth, and it can be rolled up if needed.
Gonna make on of these myself in time

Tek screws, sicaflex and gaffa tape... What more could a man need.. :)

I've seen them before too Nash, especially making hoops over fruit trees. Bank a couple of star pickets in then slide the black poly on..

Yep...thats the go, if you want to make a bigger structure just get some K-rail from the B and tek it along the sides and roof.

There's a lot of different designs out there for different pipe houses when you start looking.

Yep, but I've built that style before and I like it :D it fits all my criterea

1) Easy to build
2) Cheap
3) Can drink whilst making it......ok so you can do that with other GH's but I like it anyway :thumbleft:

What is K rail?

Post subject:  Re: PVC Hoop greenhouse

K-rail is a fencing product, you tek it to the posts then tek the fencing sheets to it.
There is also a smaller version used for plastering, it's added to the roof beams then the plaster board is secured to it.

slink, if you go to pg2 on my old thread (Gnash has another go) you will see the k-rail in the pics.
I used the smaller stuff to attach the tin panels to my old green house/structure thingo :)

I have a rule that I can't drink during construction, not unless I'm stuck for ideas on how to solve a problem, then it's time to stop, get a beer and think about it... :D
