I'm looking for some pictures of siphons for the next issue of the magazine, and a range of different ones.

A bell siphon - preferable without an air hose

A loop siphon

A water bridge

and a "water trap" or U-bend

These will be to go along with the illustrations we are having drawn up to show how the different siphons work. Illustrations are all very well, but nice sample photos are always good. This is for a general article on siphons, then in coming editions we will have more details on the different types of siphon.

If we use your pic you'll be sent a printed version of the magazine, either the new one, or one the past issues if you prefer..

Anyone???

I think some people use the Affnan bell siphon... and apparently have good results...
I think that should fit into the bell siphon without an air hose category...

Because my pipes go below ground then back up I get an air lock between my Bell and the water below ground, wich would cause the bell to float as the water level rose in the growbed, end result a continuously flooded growbed, so i ended up with these designs. a 25mm pvc end cap or joiner glued to the top of the bell, then a small air hole through the top and a ping pong ball as a one way air valve...

Yep, have a whole article written by Affnan, with lots of his photos for the next edition as we start to look at the different types individually.

I have a water bridge on my indoor aquarium system that works really well I could snap a few photos of. There's one pic and a diagram on my thread: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7396

Also, if you're looking for non-siphon systems, I use a couple of automatic flushers on a couple of by GB's that work just as well as my siphons. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5098&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15

Siphons must be a bit of a personal thing, people not wanting to air them in public.... What about a loop siphon? Anyone?

Originals available in higher res but you probably got plenty of Affnan's style.

File comment: Parts I used. Blue dot is a 4mm hole that does not show up.
Bath still to have some aquaclay added.

File comment: Same type, in operation. Still needs minor adjustment of height.
Extra collar around the top sitting on Bluemetal due small aquaclay pebbles floating in last 100mm.

I t seams only those running the Affnan will pull them out to take a photo because we know they will always work perfectly once put back unlike the problematic traditional bell siphons

Froggo, there is a certain natural geometric beauty to that loop siphon, I bet if follows the "Golden ratio"
