Has anyone got any experience with using one of these 12 volt pumps in place of a 240 volt electromagnetic one? I figure it gets rid of the need for a 240/12 volt inverter if they are suitable. I have used similar pumps in 4wding but they usually have a duty cycle and get pretty hot. I would not have thought they would be suitable for 24 hour a day running but these are being sold as aquarium pumps? Would be good if they are OK, simple to hook up to battery bank and run a CTEK charger to the battery to keep them topped up when 240 volt power is on.

Yeah they are good, you just need to take that end cover off and fill it with grease - they are a bit stingy at the factory.

Got 1 for my emergency backup system. Sounds like one of those little car air compressors. Damn noisy wouldn't want to run t permanently.
Grabbed one of these at the same time lot better noise wise.

My plan was to set up the 12v one to switch on only on AC fail. Both air pumps feeding into same airline via a check valve if needed.

OB, have you run one consistently? I am looking at running it without a fallover switch for the AC fail. Guess I can knock up a power fail switch if needed.

Like most 12v gear you cant run it continuously for ages, I'd say 6 month life would the most.

I'd do it the same is Priv, but I myself prefer inverters, because if the mains goes out for a long time I can plug the ute in :headbang:

Could you not plug the ute into your battery bank as well even without an inverter? Hopefully it should not be a problem for me as I have over 300AH which should sustain it for nearly 36 hours without charging. :headbang:

Yeah, but i'd need to move water as well, probably only got a couple of hours of air holdover with this system.
