Hello fellow aquaponicers, Just have to share with you my new purchase. I was cashing in some scrap metal at the merchants yesterday and saw 3 potential grow beds. The man said they were for sale at $1 per kilo. I came back the next day and bought one. Here are some pictures. It is made of steel and have some rust. I was reading in another thread that I could paint them with Sikatie BE or Gripset 451 to put a food and fish safe coating inside. I would value your expert opinions about my purchase as I am very new to this exciting adventure. thanks Dale Morgan |

Nice size! What is it made from - looks like aluminium? Another option instead of paint is pond liner. |

It is a bit shallow and that drain hole is too small. It looks like galvanized metal, definitely make sure to coat or line it well with some fish safe material. At that depth it might be best suited to use for a nursery bed or raft bed. I personally like 300 mm deep or much deeper beds for regular flood and drain gravel beds. |
