Yo, anyone seen a digital or not digital timer that can switch my pump on for 5mins every 20 mins?

Have been to the local electronics shops and found only 12/24hour jobs.

cheers

About 14 cycles per day is about as good as I can find aswell. But really I need 72 cycles per day, if I am going to achieve 3 cycles per hour.

you could get 5 timers and set them all in sequence. Cost ya mega bucks, but it would work!

I was just trying to work out if that would work but I was trying to do it with the 15min manual ones.

however with digi timer it could be.

if timer number 1 was set as follows:
step 1 on 9:00 to 9:05
step 2 on 9:20 to 9:25
step 3 on 9:40 to 9:45 ...
step 14 on 13:20 to 08:99
Timer 2 then continues from step 14
step 14a on 13:20 to 13:25
step 15 on 13:40 to 13:45

That could technically work.

I bought the exact same thing temporarily, I have it set to run the pump for 10 mins every 50 mins giving me 12 hours of operation a day. The growbed fills in 1 min however a ball valve has the flow tuned so the pump is marginally slower than the syphon so as a result it drains very slowly with new water being added. I'll see how it goes. I did think of buying two and connecting the outputs in parallel, all you need is a double adapter and a short cord with two male ends, but it is extremely dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands. DISCLAIMER: Don't do it!

BTW.... Made my century!! :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7:

By piggy backing two timers you could esentially have 26 on/off functions a day. However When timer1 is off, timer2 will not get power and hence the timer memory will run off batteries for half of the day, meaning you will have to replace the batteries every week or so, unless you use a 3 volt plug pack and rechargeable batteries.

Good point about the lack of power to the piggy backed device TC.

CG the step 14 is to allow power to the second timer because they will both have to be on to allow power to the pump. But TC's point kills this idea completely.

I think I need to investigate the PLC thingy with Steve, to find out if he can build a timer that will switch the pump on and off that will be friendly with 240v.

I wouldn't bother with trying to get three tank cycles per hour FJ, my large system only gets the tank cycled once every 3 hours and I have at least 40kg of silver perch in just over 1500L.

Also, the more your pump is going off and on, the more you're wearing it out. My pump in the drain tank that switches on and off about 10 times an hour has blown up twice, where as the pump in the fish tank, that only goes on and off once an hour has been fine for the last 2.5 years.

Now that is the best news I have heard all week.
I will reduce it to 1 cycle per hour for 15mins and try out a cheap manual $5 timer from bunnings
