Hey guys,

The tap fitting on my rainwater tank is a bit leaky, I can tighten it and stop the leak but the tap ends up facing upwards :?

Is there anything you ppl can think of that would stop this?

cheers...

S77, sorry to sound like an idiot, but i assume you want to fix it without unscrewing the tap and loosing all your water?

You could try unscrewing the tap further out, to the point where the water leak is just short of a spray, then wrap teflon tape around the thread and re screw it back up. hopefully you will have got enough teflon tape on to seal it when its re-tightened.

wrap the thread with plumbers tape but when you get up near the body of the tap put several layers on
this should creat e a type of washer to stop the tap going in so far

hope this makes sense to you

good luck

The hardest bit is wrapping the tape around an already wet thread, but it's your best solution so as not to lose the water. Just do a combo of what those guys said :D

Cool, I have only caught 1 decent rain (which was today), hence noticing the leak, and have already resigned to losing this small catch. I thought there was some sort of tape you could use so thanks guys, I won't look so stupid now when I go to the shop tomorrow. :)

Yup, Teflon Tape, Thread Tape or Plumbers Tape, all the same stuff. There is also some paste you can get that also helps (I think it is called Stag Jointing Paste). Just remember to wrap the tape around the thread in the same direction that you screw it into the fitting/tank, otherwise it all unwinds off the thread while you are trying to do it up. :banghead:
