Have any of you used uniseals before? I've seen them on a few koi sites for diy 55 gallon barrel filters and other stuff. They're used in place of bulkheads. I was wondering if they were restricted by the thickness of the vessel? Also, where are they sold; fish stores, plumbing, etc? Also, if you have used them what exactly is it? It seems to be a type of gasket.

Do a search of the forum on "uniseals"... they've been discussed many times... and used by many...

In fact I think there's even a thread about them...

I've used them lots. They are what some people call a top hat grommet of sorts. The ones I've been using are good for a thickness of 1/2". I've even used them through liner and plywood grow beds.

They each have their place. I use both in my system.

Thanks everybody. Yup alot of stuff in the search engine. Was too excited to remember to use the search when I saw these for the first time.
I've read on other sites that some people didn't like the support the uniseal gives the pipe versus a bulkhead. Anyone have that type of experience? Last thing I want is someone bumping into my pipes and causing a great flood.

it depends. Uniseals hold well, if the hole is the right size, so you have to get the hole right. Bulkheads don't care.
In thin wall stuff like pond liner, they have been proven to work, with some effort, but I've always used bulkheads, or Tank Outlets as they're often sold as.
however for a standpipe in a GB they are BRILLIANT. there is no other word.
perhaps as a standpipe in an FT, but I've never tried this.
