Morning all a bit of fun lastninght now back to the real stuff seems to be a lot of talk about submersable pumps beeing able to pass 10 mm size chunks wont that block the holes on top of the grow bed how about a pipe that your pump will fit in the height of the fish tank with holes 1 mm smaller than your grow bed top pipe holes or the filter on the pump drilled up and down the sides say 200 glue a bottom in can easy be lifted out to clean when the water drops to low when pumping[ gees wish i could draw on this thing make it a lot easer to explain] like the pipe goel uses in his bed drains

I think I understand what your talking about F&F, basically filtering the water of chunks before they get to the pump? The thing is that you have to do something with your solids, leaving them in the water means they break down and in doing so they consume oxygen. If you can pump them up into the beds then they are out of the fish tank and not having an adverse effect on the fish.

I've never had any problems with chunks blocking my grow bed pipes, I opened a couple of pipes up and had a look the other day, they are spotless inside... I have 6 mm holes in my piping and I guess if anything does get in there that son't fit through the holes, it doesn't take long with the pumping cycles for it to break down and go through the holes into the bed..
