A place to discuss aquaponics

Anyone here have experience with them? They're long plastic sand bags. I am wondering if they can hold up in a wet gravel bed for very long. Read yesterday that the polypropylene bags can degrade (it says shred) in 8 months, but I bet that assumes exposure to sun (I'm thinking about an area that is dark).

Specifically I'm thinking about polypropylene sand tubes to hold up steel mesh panels, with gravel on top of the panels.

the bags are probably similar to those used for fish/animal feed, woven strips of plastic. They degrade even if you fold them neatly and leave them in a dark place. How quickly depends on the quality of the bag in the first place.

Thanks Jaymie. They're also called "rice bags" in the hippie building trades, because you can get a lot of rice bags to use for building earth bag structures.
