Anyone got one of these? What do you think of it.

What sort of fish load do you think it will support? Say in 1000L and 4000L

Would it be the sole source of aeration?

Aquatic Eco Systems has a fair bit of info on Aeration and amount of bait that can be supported with different amounts of aeration.

As a rule of thumb, I've been using a number the guy there gave me that you want 1 CFM of air per 400 gallons of water. That would be aprox 28 liter per Minute for 1500 liters of water.
Of course there is also pressure to be factored in. The pump needs to supply the required volume of air at a particular pressure. Pushing air down 28" of water depth requires 1 psi and adding the air stones can count as another psi (it actually isn't quite that much but works for figuring.) I'm not sure what I should convert the pressure measurment to in metric.

Anyway, looking at the specs that are listed for that pump it says 40 L/minute so if it actually delivers 40 L/minute at 2 psi, then it should be able to support a 2000 Liters worth of fish tank.

As to fish load. According to the qes # in the Aquatic Eco Systems catalogue (Check their web site for the tech talks and there should be loads of info) http://www.aquaticeco.com/pages/102/AES-Number
Anyway, for the amount of volume of air that pump can provide looking at some of the air stone here, I would say about 37lb of fish. So according to the conversion that would be 16.78 kilo of fish. (providing you keep your tank relatively clean of solids.)

If the battery in it is replaceable, then it looks like a good buy to me. (I know there are some little battery backup air pumps that the rechargable battery isn't replaceable and that is no good.)

TCLynx,

Thanks for the excellent info. This unit should be good for me then.

Will be used as supplemental air supply, in additional to the flood/drain process. But will be my only source of air if there is a power failure. I live in sububira, I don't recall anything greater than 5 hours outage in the last 10+yrs.

thanks

That's about the same price of the pump I brought last year. Mine is a Resun pump, it's about half the size but only pumps 5L/min. I'm finding it's not quite enough air for a 1500 litre tank when you've got 50 trout.

I ended up buying on ebay Wednesday. The owner is away until the 20th, so if you can wait until mid next week you will be fine. I could not find anyone else selling it either.

Yeah I emailed him too - he said he thinks he may have more in stock and that a breeder cleaned him out of most of what he had last week - he will list any he has left on Wednesday.

DONT BUY FROM THIS EBAY SELLER! I just realised that I have purchased from him in the past and he screwed me! I Looks like a good product though and I would like one myself - but can I strongly suggest you find another supplier for this product! Dont want anyone to be burnt like I was. His ebay user name is millietreasures. You have been warned!

Most ebayers I have dealt with are rude when you ask them to fix up a problem for you. Is par for the course unfortunatelly. Is especially a problem when buying electronic stuff that they probably bought a container full for f all because is doesn't work. Example is my weather station. $130 worth of shit that doesn't measure anything with any accuracy and is therefore now in a drawer. So much for the 12 month replacement warranty - seller told me to get stuffed.

I got mine okay this week. It is a bit louder than I would like so may look at performing some mods to try and make it a bit less noisy.
