So I am a bit restricted by space in the fish room. To make sure that I have a good filtration (and with the flexibility of expanding in the future) I want to install 2 mechanical filters. Ahm so the idea is that the water from the fish tanks will go into the first mechanical filter (maybe a radial flow) and then flow into the second filter barrel (maybe a swirl filter) I also want to incorporate the different filters for showcasing purposes so that people can see the different types. Curious what you guys think of having the water flowing from Fish tanks -> Filter nr1 -> filter nr 2....or maybe each fish tank with its own filter (problem with this is that in case I want to add another fish tank, this will get more tricky 2 IBC fish tanks by the way. will be growing max around 30 kg of african catfish |

I think the filtration of solids is more effective at slower velocities, which makes me think that having them in parallel would be better than having them in series. I think i've heard that the radial filter is more effective than swirl?.. |

I do not have experience with a swirl filter, but do use a radial flow filter/ settler. It does work very well. It removes the large solids. Some people go straight from the RFF to the grow beds. I am doing this right now. It is working well so far. Some people like the finer solids to go into the GB, since it will allow mineralization to happen, which eventually releases more nutrients. If I were to add another filter, I would want something that would remove more solids after the RFF, perhaps a bird netting filter/ shade cloth, Kaldness, bottle cap, or whatever would remove finer stuff, and make more surface area for bacteria. Just a couple ideas to consider. |
