Don't know about salinity but I use one for disolved sugers when brewing, same principle different scales, so much easier and less waste. I would say that if your doing a lot of testing then it's worth the $49 |

But is it useful? I can always use plant health as an indicator.... but have you ever needed to know exactly what it is? |

Yea i use mine occasionally if i see something wrong i check to see how much salt [because salt gradually depletes in the system] and then add to bring it to 3 or4 ppm |

For those interested, Amacafish's wrap up of how salt kills bad things is a good'n: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum ... 382#110382 So I guess this salinity refractometer would allow you to tell what you should be dosing it up to in times of problems. |
