Hello,

I just started to build my aquaponic system, and I'm planning to use IBC tanks. But, the only ones I found are new tanks with new oil for hydraulic transmission. So, I'm wondering if I clean very well the tanks, from the oil. Can I use them for the fish?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Paco

Not recommended. I think you will have problems. I have one IBC that is food grade, but had some citrus product in it. I scrubbed it with soap and bleach and rinsed it really well before I used it. It's been a year and I can still smell the citrus in that tank.

You will need to use detergent & hot water a few times. Just keep washing and rinsing until all the oil has gone. I used IBCs with hydraulic oil in them to build wicking beds and cleaned them like this
