Hi guys,

I'm an absolute newbie who is building my first aquaponics system. My first grow breeds are going to be wooden framed boxes with pond liners for water proofing.

My question is, what type of fitting is best to fit through the pond liner for the bell siphon to be water tight please?

Will these fittings work or is there something better?

Hi Jeff,

yeah they'll work but they have some drawbacks in that they've got a large diameter which makes it difficult if you need to get low into a corner on a side and they're quite pricey as they get bigger.
An alternative is a pair of PVC bulkhead fittings from Reece where they screw together and you're left with a male and/or female glue in socket on each end $3.00 pair. Another is a Uniseal which is like a big O ring with a slot around the outside. Colum did a video on how to install Uniseals. Just type uniseals Colum into the search window.

Thanks. Do I need to silicone or Sikaflex the wet side of the join on the pond liner or do the seal well enough on their lonesome?

OMGponics, those bulkhead you linked to are perfect.
people tend to put the drain on the bottom of the beds, not the sides.

you dont need to use any extra silicone, just do them up tight.
