I was browsing the aussies living simply forum. baldcat posted this link there, http://aquamor.tripod.com/rainwaterb.htm Seems like it very do-able if you have space. could be used as a fish tank. half the height and twice as wide would make a great fish pond |

how long should it cure before it would be safe for fish? Looks like a great idea and you could choose your shape - but prety much permanent. |

Normally I would say concrete cures in 28 days, but I reckon give it a couple of months?? |

i'd say wait till it cures (don't know how long) and then monitor PH as it will be high. May need to use a bit of phosphoric acid for a while. Hydrochloric would be fine too, but might as well ad some phosphate by using phosphoric acid. 'Steve |

cheaper it may be... but one hell of a wait before you can use it then... guess it would be a long term thing. |

its only a ph thing, am, can't see it swinging much higher than 8 to 8.5 due to the calcium oxide / carbonate. and perch are fine at that ph, yabbies LOVE that ph. You'd just wanna make sure your ammonia ws ZERO at that ph. |

hmm... I guess there must be limitations as to the size of tank you could build this way... |

i think you could go bigger as long as the height was limited. pressure on the walls is directly related to water height. Thats why long aquariums are common, but tall ones aren't. |

What a simple idea.... Here is a slightly more complicated one building a tank in Vietnam |

that idea might last longer... but would cost way more and take more man hours to build.... the first idea has me wondering if I could get money together to build it.... |
