Post subject:  Advice on how to fix this GB leak
Any advice would be appreciated. I made a GB out of the top of an IBC tote, but didn't realize there was a problem where the cap screws on. As you can see in the picture below, there's a piece missing from the plastic, and that's where the water leaks out from even when I have the cap on tightly.

I have a spare tote that I could use for cutting out a new GB, but it would take a lot of work to clean it out, so I'm examining my other options first. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to fix this leak? Is there a safe sealant that I could use around the cap edges to stop the water from leaking? Otherwise maybe I could put tons of teflon around the threads and maybe that would keep the water in? Do you have any ideas?

I would clean the threads thoroughly with degreaser and water, dry with a clean cloth, then clean again metho soaked cloth (helps to evaporate off any water). Make sure the threads are thoroughly dry, then smear a generous layer of silicone glass sealant on both threads, enough so that when you screw the cap back on you get excess oozing out. The excess can be cleaned up with a cloth soaked with turps, white spirits etc while it's still wet. Wait at least 24hrs before you start filling the GB with water.

For jobs like that I use sellys roof and gutter silicone never ever had a leak

I would recommend getting aquarium silicone since it's fish and NSF safe. It's available in most Home Depot/Lowes type stores.

Whoops, replied to a different topic, when i thought it was this one.

JB Water weld. Drinking/fish safe (googled) and can be molded and then shaped after curing.

Appled some to a GB and cured within a few hours (water dripping behind) and rock solid now with no more leaking.
