I'm in the process of building my first "Full Size" system. I live in FresNO, Ca and triple digit temperatures are very common in the summer. The swimming pool takes up most of our small backyard and full sun in the only placement option I have for the fist tank.

I have my sump tanks barred 2 feet underground beneath the grow beds. I have currently wrapping the tank in 1.5 inch foam board. My question is...Does anyone see a problem if I add the foam board to the lid to make a fully enclosed tank?

If I go this route, I plan to run the intake for the venturi out side of the enclosed tank.

My fish tank is a chest freezer and I close the lid on cold nights. The spray bay supplies the water to the fish and the overflow (chiftpist set up) allows air to keep it from being sealed up 100%. I've not had problems but again it's only cold nights it's fully closed.

I only have goldfish (the sacrificial lamb of aquaponics) in the tank now, so maybe I'll just close it up and see what happens.

Unfortunately I have severe issues with hard pan and digging the 2'x2'x8' whole for the ST was more work than I wanted to do.
