Hello All, I'm new to the group and this is my first post.

I have a roof top cargo carrier I am considering repurposing into a grow bed for an aquaponics system.

The inside bottom would not be fully smooth though as I'm looking at using the lid turned upside down.

Does anyone see this as a bad idea or should the concept work?

I plan to use a stand pipe and clay ball media.

Fiberglass (usually what these are) isn't great at unsupported weight bearing, but if you clean it well it could work. Make sure there's plenty of surface area supporting it so it doesn't crack.

It looks as it it's a former of thermoset plastic. I agree that a full support would be safest approach as well.
