Hi all, To make a standpipe, Joel's book describes fitting a piece of PVC pipe to the plug that fits in the drain of his GB. Unfortunately, I can't find a piece of pipe that fits my plugs. Does anyone have any alternative methods of connecting a standpipe to a standard 40mm drain? |

F&F glues it to a bath plug (one of the ones that presses in, not over) |

I most certainly do....... It took me years to find the perfect fitting, but I finally found it.. Forget the plug, if it's a 40mm drain then you need a 25mm - 20mm coupling reducer.. If it's a 50mm drain, you need a 32mm-25mm coupling reducer.. The thin end slots beautifully down into the drain fitting and your stand pipe goes in the other end...

Yeah, that's what Joel does (edit: did!). Presumably F&F has 50mm drainage too? I've got an inny plug too, but it's for a 40mm drain & I can't find PVC pipe which will fit neatly inside. |

I use male and female fittings (one on outside and one on inside of GB)with gasket in between to stop leaking

It works.... Next time your in "B" grab a drain fitting, then go to the retic section and try the couplings and the way they slot in together is magic.. Makes the stand pipes very easy to remove and put back into the drain, unlike the original plugs that tend to be a little dicey.. |

Never rely on the numbers when it comes to PVC fittings... it just doesn't make any sense... period! Say for example 25mm or 1 inch pipe... no actual dimension IS 25mm... its crazy... |

Check out your local plumbing store. Mine's 50% cheaper than B on some items, and noting more expensive found so far. And I get knowledgeable service. - but this is OT again so I should prolly ask that this stops here? |

In the past I've gone out of my way to support local trade industries (mostly plumbing & timber suppliers) but ~95% of the items I've purchased have been significantly cheaper at B. For example, the local Tradelink sells 50mm PVC pressure pipe for ~$66 retail. As I was buying several hundred dollars worth of stuff I asked for a discount & they were able to sell it to me for $57.09. That sounded great ...
