Hello

I have been offered some IBC containers for next to nothing, only thing is they were used to store petrol.

I dont know if you can clean these so thay can be used to breed fish inside. Can anyone please advise me on to buy or not to buy.

Thanks

Probably not a good idea.

Don't waste your time, or money on them, you'll never get the all the residue out of the plastic- it will always smell like petrol.

Thanks for the advice. I don't really want them as they have been damaged but i just wanted to make sure i wasn't passing up a good thing.

So if there was a mineral based chemical in the ranks would that be ok if one washed it and there is no smell left in the plastic tank?

I have used IBC's that had oil in them previously and they were fine with some good washing. Especially cutting them up first and washing them properly giving them a scrub.

Did you guys use any soap to wash them?

I am thinking of giving them a proper blast with the pressure cleaner and rinsing them a few times.

Picked up 3 nice IBC containers for $100 in Landsdale, Perth.

So my projects can start.

The metal cage that IBCs are surrounded with might be useful. If you're getting them for free, it might be worth it just for the steel. Recycle or dispose of the tank portion or use it for storing stuff where the petrol residue doesn't matter.

I am going to use the metal cages as growing frames.

+100.. I have to buy more IBC's just for the frames

and - IF you can get a pressure washer and soap, on them, you will likely quickly tell is it made a difference.. Petrol smells, and you could take a risk, IF washed and emptied and left sealed in the sun, you can smell NOTHING when opened..
