Post subject:  What is the standard depth recommended for floating rafts?

By now, my most often used growing systems are growbeds and NFT. I have some floating raft. I mostly use whatever things not used any more, so my floating raft are made of discarded styrofoam from some of my packing stuff, and the throughs are made of some used plastic containers. Unlike my growbeds and my NFT, the floating rafts are not specifically designed at all. When a friend asked, I was caught speechless. May I know what is the actually recommended water depth for floating rafts system, if we plant lettuces, packchoys and collards? I am also curious with the recommended thickness for the styrofoam float as well.

Thank you so much.
Indra.

Mine are around 7", I think at least 12" would be best option. I don't think deeper is an issue, but not sure if there are any benefits beyond 18". The 1" foam is good. Paint the sides before installing.

The standard is 12" or 300mm but I'm not aware of any studies that support this being an ideal level.
