So I'm considering building a sixteen-foot (4.88 meter) geodesic dome to cover with doubled greenhouse film. it would be about 8' high in the middle, and to make a good 4-season door I'll need to put it on top of a knee wall of some sort. The knee wall would also allow opening vents at the bottom, as a film-covered dome really won't the way you can just roll up a straight-sided one. I'd also love any tips on dome ventilation or general dome ideas if anyone's offering , thinking probably EMT conduit or possibly PVC, though I can get 3/4" EMT for about the same price as the 1" PVC. Anyway, I can figure the angles to cut the lumber (72 per board end) to make 10 turns, but how about the length? Does one measure the inside or the outside edge? Seems like I saw a formula for making a rim around a well or something but can't find it. Anyone got a calculator for this? I'd usually just build the damn dome, mock up a few cuts and wee what works but there has to be a smart way to do this. |

I think I saw a website with calculators that would calculate these things at one point. Maybe one of these calculators - http://www.domerama.com/calculators/ |
