I'm looking at installing a float valve in my 500L ST to ensure the water is topped up from the nearby household water tank.

Any suggestions for a decent unit that would be easy to connect to the garden hose connection of the tank?

..
the best plan is to firstly .. only use a float valve that mounts thru the side or is fully internal.. consistent with the belief that the fewer holes you drill, the less chance of loss or disaster..
Go to AliExpress.com and search for float valves.. ALL soughts of valves on there..

and this might be a good start...

I've been using red ones from farmer little on eBay for a year. Even ok in duck tank in full sun. Work with low head, even 20cm is enough. Only downside is that they are not adjustable.

I got one from a local fodder store.

Was pretty cheap, and seems to do the job.
