Has anyone tried bending PVC pipe?

It seems simple enough: http://wgsc.com/pvc/how-to-bend-pvc-pipe.htm

Not sure where to procure an appropriate heat gun in Oz though.

As C1 says..... fill the area to be bent with sand..... stops the pipe collapsing when you heat and bend it.

You can get those butane cannister heat guns from Bunnings or other hardware places.

Hi Rupe,

Oh! The page I linked to suggested using an electric heat gun. Are you saying a butane gun is better? I think I'd be worried about overheating the pipe & breathing in noxious fumes?

You can adjust the flame and/or distance from the pipe Scottie....

Most plumbers and sparkies use them.

If you heat the end you can also insert the same sized pipe and make a female fitting. I have not bought couplers in a long time.

In short, use anything that generates heat, for small jobs, boiling water is enough.
Filling with sand prevents collapse excellently.
PVC becomes quite supple when heated, and the glue in fittings also break down with this heat, if you're desperate enough for a particular fitting.
Easy tip, noxious fumes are created when the pipe gets hot. This is preceded by the pipe going brown then black, suggested course of action: reduce and spread heat evenly

I bought a cheap "Ozito" heat gun from the B. (about $30 ) for bending PVC 50mm electrical conduit. Works fine.
