I'm looking to purchase something for aeration as I will soon be putting in some DWC beds, plus for both DO and aesthetics point of view, would like something fairly big that can also do FT's. Currently have 2 x 1000L FT, but this will increase to at least 4 all up (possibly more), DWC component will likely be 4 x half ibc's. I'd also like to be able to aerate a half ibc for duckweed, and a 200L mineralisation tank. Also like to be able to run decent lengths, with likely position to be in the middle, and have 7-9m runs from end to end (my system is spread out). I don't know anything about pushing air over that length, so let me know if it is possibly better to do extension cord and have two aerators. But this would preferably be a last option, as this does not suit my system needs for a design point of view. I also know nothing about what styles types I want. My experiences with aerators is being electrocuted at 18 years of age and missing half a season of rugby due to this, so I have stayed away ahaha. My budget is somewhere between $150-$250, though I am saving up for a lower wattage (better quality) pump, so lower the better! Thanks in advance! Also i did search the threads and couldn't find anything, so if there is already a thread covering this, let me know. |

Hi Bc i use a Resun 100. have a couple of 3 inch air stones in 2 IBC fish tanks and one in each sump plus another in the bottom of a 200l digester. so 7 stones all up, im sure I could add another 1 or 2 if needed. I run 13mm black polly main pipe and use cheap screw in 600mm garden irrigation dripper fittings atatched to the airstones. on the sump air stones i use flexible aqauarium type hose to drop the stones to the bottom of the IBC's there is plenty of pressure for these to work at that depth. Have used the resun pump 24/7 for a couple of years now with no sign of trouble. |

Best priced website for that has Hailea that are smaller, but lower wattage. If I had three, and plumbed all together, if one broke, other two could handle load. Plus I could do one on a backup, which would mean it would last longer at only 20w. But then I'm ignoring advice and unsure if they are any good! Hmmm decisions! How many fish in the ibc's? How much feed per day? If you use the correct size piping, distance won't be a problem as air doesn't have very much friction loss when compared to water. |

It will vary Ryan, my tanks are on display at a cafe, so I will have one tank that fluctuates with 10-30 large silvers/jades (500g-1kg), one tank will have 30-40 goldfish, one tank will be dedicated to natives, small feeder fish from local river, freshwater prawns and yabbies etc, and then another will have 40-50 fingerlings of silver/perch. All this dependant upon filtering etc as well, and not what I have now, but this is the plan. Sounds good about piping size/distance, thanks for the advice! Ahhh feed. I'm putting in currently how much they can eat in 5 minutes, which is bigger all currently, and supplementing with duckweed, until I do some more research (and it warms up and fish start to feed aggressively).
