I'm hoping someone has any designs, ideas or pictures for a second filter for a x2 IBC FT x3 GB ,1 ST and 150L radial filter as I would like to try and reduce the fine solids from the system.
Currently I'm just using some fine cloth from the radial filter to the sub-tank but that can clog up quite quickly.

This is my idea that I have been using for five weeks, it takes out the solids then the second filter takes out any loose floating objects, leaving you the nutrients to pass to your plants and not the solids that will clog up your grow beds!

Anything bigger than a microbe gets filtered out, depends on the grading of bag you get, these that I have were just there, for $9.95 at Bunning’s, a long time ago I actually worked in a paint factory, Raffles paint, they got brought out by Tailmins paints, so I know how good they work, I did see a guy on you tube using one around his pump! But I don’t recommend that as these things work real good and will kill your pump if you do that! All I can say is its filtering over 10ltrs per min, that’s my maximum, or the fish tank overflow starts up, but I only have a 700ltr fish tank so that’s ample for my needs, I can filter out my fish tank 12 times per day at that rate off flow,
I am using 25mm pipe to all fish tank fittings as well as the filters,
All the solids are taken out just leaving the good stuff for my plants,
My system is only 5weeks old so I will add more as I know more, this is an experiment I have going ATM, its that new! World first on backyard aquaponics! From a new guy so far ignored from the moderators of this site?

Just an update here, I got a bit of algae growing on the fish tank, today I noticed that the filter wasn’t working at it best, so I slid the lid over and the bag has algae in it, so I turned the bag a little clearing the holes and its working again, so in conclusion! This filter also collects any algae that gets in your solid lift, there’s a small bit of algae in the sump tank but that’s not floating, that’s on or just above the water line,

so it wouldnt be any good for my 130lt/min?

That would depend on your pipes? My system is only held back by my fish tank not being able to handle more than 10ltrs per minute flow, or the overflow starts up! I built mine for a 700liter fish tank, the paint filter should filter out what you require if you fit it in a larger tank or drum but by running it so the water passes through the filter, I am only using 25mm pipes on all fish tank and filter connections, before I put the filter drums in place I had the filter bag connected to my solid lift pipe back into the sump tank, with the 25mm pipes 10ltrs was all it could take per minute, or 600ltrs per hour! I only have a 700ltr fish tank, so this works out for me and others with smaller systems, your filtration should only be held back by your systems ability to remover the water, mine is gravity fed, but at 130ltr per minute you may want to split the filtration, using more bags?

Ahh, fair enough, when i read your other post it sounded like you were saying the bag could only handle 10l/min.

No that’s just my piping, the bags will do what you want them to do, but be warned, if you have a build-up of solids they will block, that’s why I said I don’t recommend you putting one around your pump! As they are water cooled in submersible pumps, I am not sure off your setup but as an added bonus these things work a treat,

Why is your water going from your RFF into the sump tank? Why isn't it going into the GBs?

I'm pretty sure I've got my setup CHIFT PIST, GB into FT, pump in ST with the RFF In between.
I'm open to ideas if there is a better way, I just thought that that's the best way since the pump is in the ST

If you are going to use a RFF then it is best placed after the FT but before anything else.

For CHIFT PIST the normal configuration is Sump>FT>GB>Sump.

I should have mentioned I have solid lift from FT also but not sure if that makes any difference, my RFF is still after the FT is there any reason the above would be any different/ better?

Is your RFF immediately after the FT or the sump?
