New systems can go a little pea soupy. Just make sure you've got plenty of aeration for the fishies overnight until it does. |

I'd pee in it as well, you need the ammonia (well not you but the bacteria) |

DillonR wrote: I did that too But how much how often Not too much! Best just once wait 24 hrs and do an ammonia test. Aim for 1-2 ppm. I leant the hard way and ended up with 8+ppm ammonia which actually slows the cycling process Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

^yes I got the idea fron rob bob I think filters are needed especially when you first start up a system I filled my tanks before I had gravel and pump set up the tanks got a few leaves in them there are some yabbies in the big tank not sure how many are left though |

I filled my system two weeks before I got the pump to age the water a bit, then after finishing the basic piping and filter done, I ran the pump for three weeks to sort out the bugs in the system, then when I got the clay media, I brought the plants yabbies and ten goldfish the next day, I just added sea sol every week, I have five yabbies nine goldfish and three silver perch in the system now, plus four Barra waiting for warmer weather, harvested my first lettuce today, this is the most fun hobby I have done in years! I just wanted a water feature next to the patio? |
