The two pumps I have for circulation both came with venturi fittings ( maybe theyre not actually venturis , but they have the same effect ) with a thin air hose that sucks the air in as the water flows out the front of the pump . They both push alot of air but theyre too noisy for my tastes , so here's a little trick I learned yesterday for making them whisper quiet without losing any air intake :

get an old plastic film canister ( or something of a similar size ) and drill two holes in the lid

jam a tube joiner in each hole and attach the air hose from the pump to one

keep the whole thing out of the water obviously

Viola - now your pump is shooting bubbles out like mad and not keeping you awake at night !

The "giggle" noise from Venturis is really loud. Thanks Boris, this solution helped me.

What you have done is created a muffler just like the one on you car.
You could add something like cotton wool inside the canister to create a filter as well that way no dust or bugs will be sucked into your air hose.
