Post subject:  pool to pond paint type

We moved into this house 2 years ago and we had been planning on just building a koi pond with a few plants. However, I have had an increasing interest in hydroponics because our summers in Colorado are short, hot and dry. So, in doing research on that subject....stumbled on to aquaponcs. I haven't had a good nights rest since. I am not only obsessed but now have infected others with this disease and I HAVEN'T EVEN GOT a CLUE AS TO WHAT I AM DOING YET!! I have done so much searching and can't seem to figure out what kind of paint would stick to the old pool (it has been cleaned and sanded) and is ready to go. Any ideas???

The paint that is in place is in good condition. However, I've heard that (please don't laugh at me now)......... they prefer 'black, dark brown, etc'. Supposedly this is because the lighter colors 'stress' them as they feel exposed. Now, this comes from a Koi specialist and they have a different agenda. However, this may not matter as far as dinner fish are concerned. Since we are trying to incorporate this into our yard....the blue is a little overwhelming. If it weren't such a big pool............. but it is very big and very blue.

I don't think the fish will worry too much about the colour. But is you really want to do it here is some advice Murray provided to me about my canoe which is relevant to your circumstances.

If you need to you can re coat with some Flow Coat. If you want to apply some fancy colour then you will need to paint over the Flow Coat with some Hi Build Epoxy Primer....2 pack paint.. It is the only thing that will stick to F/g - Flow Coat etc......Then you can paint over the Hi Build Epoxy Primer with whatever type of paint you like and it will stick to the Hi Build and the Hi Build will in turn stick to the Flow Coat.
