Heyo,

Just a quick question, I've been given a bunch of steel tophat battens to use for the shadehouse I'm going to put up over my AP setup. Should I worry about any runoff when it rains considering they are zinc/alu coated?

I'm thinking any runoff would be non-existant/minor to the point of not being an issue but I just thought I'd check to be sure.

What do you think folks?

Thanks :)

My thinking is that the water wouldn't be touching the battens for very long. From what I've read, the danger with metals is when the water is continually moving through that piece.

There are a lot of rainwater tanks connected to zinc coated roofs. I haven't heard of any issues with that.

Build one end slightly lower than the other, this should get most of the water to run of towards the lower end.

Or cover the structure with a waterproof covering and the battens wont even get wet. I use a product called Kritis Film very strong and completely waterproof. There are plenty of other low cost options available.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I didn't think it'd be an issue but it doesn't hurt to double check.

Now, to find the energy to get it all done and up and running!
