After watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YKcmcFyjQE&t=3m18s I'm afraid that if I make a verticle SLO for my DWC it will be constantly gurgling and making that obnoxious noise. Is this the case?

Thanks!

The gurgling in that video sounded like it was from a vortex at the top and then water drop (high flow rate, low diameter pipe, long drop down to the bottom of the barrel).

You could use a larger diameter pipe (e.g.: 100mm outer + 90mm inner) to reduce the noise. You could also lower the flow rate in - less water into the tank and maybe add a reducer on the outlet.

Other than that you could try some fancier plumbing solutions - something like an S Bend might help but they're often hard to find, especially in the right diameter :/
