Hi Guys I am building my aquaponic system at the moment and and because of the funny shape at the top of my fish tank I dont think that i will be able to do the simple pipe coming out at the top of the tank. So my question is. Can i have a drain at the bottom of my tank and then with PVC pipe build the same SLO siphon on the out side of the tank and have it work the same? Eg. Have the water go down then back up the side of the tank to the height at which I want the water level and also have an opening at the top so that is there is a problem the water wont all siphon out? My SLO runs from the bottom but please when you ask a question like this post a photo of the tank and from where you want to take the SLO from, cheers. |

Hi Guys I have built the above system and it is working a treat. However I have made the outlet a little high. How much clearence do you recommend having at the top of the fish tank? I have only a couple of cm's. What level are you guys running? Thanks Matthew |

That's probably relevant to the type of fish you have - trout are jumpers. I have plastic trellis on the top of my tank, a few inches aboves the water level, to stop the acrobats. Cheers. |

I am going to start with silver perch however i want to have the option of trout. So you think as long as I have something to stop them jumping out it will all be good? |

My SPs didn't come to the surface for probably 8 months! No chance of mine jumping - especially as they slow down over the cool months. My Barra were fairly slow & laid back & weren't jumpers - but the trout can be frantic eaters & will jump for hovering insects & sometimes, just 'cause they can. |

Fully agree, netting on the tank is a must for any fish. Even my SP have jumped to get at that last pellet stuck on the rim of the tank. I just use pvc pond netting. |
