Fibreglass tubs in bathrooms are usually installed on a bed of concrete to stop cracking, but that doesn't suit my project plan (metal frame platform on either metal or concrete block legs) There'll be enough weight already with all the gravel and water.

The only alternative I can think of is a sheet of polystyrene or that expanding foam in a can.


What do people here use to support their fibreglass bathtubs when raising them and what media do you use (gravel, clay etc)

Great Stuff (that foam) isn't super strong but if you do use it be sure to get the "windows and doors" low-expansion formula. Sand in a walled outer box maybe?

I found a local supplier that sells it in two parts instead of aerosol cans. He says it expands typically 3-5 times original volume, but up to 8 times depending on weather conditions. Does that sound about right?

Ive heard the expanded foam in a can works well for supporting bath tubs.
