I'm going to build a 4X4X12" GB that needs to be up on a stand of some kind to elevate over sump. Can anyone recommend a design? I'd love to keep it lighter than just throwing 2X12s into a sandbox screwed to 3/4" plywood floor if possible. Particularly if folks have tips on how to structure the 4X4 uprights: outside and up the sides, face-screwed from inside? Inside the rails like a table (and if so how to stablize it)? I'm experienced with DIY framing but I tend to be an over-builder rather than elegant and effective  .

This'll be 120 gallons overall filled with hydroton with an autosiphon, so total weight with lumber I'd guess 1200 to 1300# range.

Pictures especially appreciated!

Thanks Ron. Believe it or not I've read that whole thread... dude's builds will have me feeling insecure for years :). I'm going to have to go rather higher, about 30" off the ground, so something along those lines but I'm not quite comfortable that center lag-bolted 4X4 will be stable enough over time.

And Texas something like that would be perfect but I'm afraid I'm not much (pronounced: "at all") of a metal fabricator unfortunately.

I was thinking more of the stud wall construction he used for the fish tank.

Yep, the lesson of load against the narrow ends of the studs is worth the read alone! I don't think a 12" GB wall would need more than one rigidity brace lengthwise, but still kicking ideas around for sure. Thanks sir!

Definitely, it looks perfect. Must be a Texas thing though... can't find it at any of our feed stores (or Lowes) :support: . I'll keep looking, maybe my buddies down in Kyle can round one up.

Edit: finding a couple under "feed bunk" on Craigslist... I'll try to find a retail place that has them. Great tip, thank you!!
