I'm having some trouble with my koi in my system. The advice I've gotten on the koi forums is to get myself a "proper" filter like a fluval FX-6


But a filter like that only holds 2 liters of bio-filter media.

I currently have 80 liters of clay beads as a growbed plus about 1 liter of "bio balls" in my 375 liter fish tank.
I also filter solids with two "washing-balls-spunge-thingy" and a few cotton cylinders, like you use to take off make-up.
I know the ratio is off in my system but I'm doing water changes until I've built some more grow beds.

Would a FX-6 filled with 2 liters of "bio-balls" like these really filter better then my system??


Any one got any data on the surface area for different filters like bioballs, k1 and expanded clay beads?

Clay balls are 45 to 60 square feet BSA per cubic foot according to bright agrotech.

I don't think he hits bioballs but wouldn't manufacturer have some data?

Good link, I've watched some of his other videos, he seems to know what hes talking about.

Now I have something to google, I found another list that showed some of the other commercial.
From what I could read the SSA was about 100-160 for the bio-balls in the picture.
And if the expanded clay beads (LECA) is 45-60 SSA and I have 80liters of them compered too the Fluval's 2liters there's got to be more surface area in my system, right?
