Hard to tell from the photo..... I remember as a kid in NZ.... the bloke down the road built one like that out of bottles.... filled them with water....

Like a huge thermal mass capture device....

It`s a great way to use plastic bottles, 550 is a lot to find though.
The other downside is they`d go milky after a while so you`d have to replace them every so often.

Everyone brings those bottles back to the shop here, to get bottle returns / deposit / whatever it's called.. Would get 150 euros for the amount of bottles in that greenhouse!

Very creative idea nonetheless!

Hi Xzorby
I didn`t realise some countries have a refund/return system for plastic bottles.
As a kid i collected empty brown beer bottles and "corona" brand lemonade for the refund value.. about 5-10p a bottle as i recall

I love the idea - have you looked at "The Owl House in south africa... the artist/builder used a lot of bottles there too
Look here:

This was also interesting:

I have seen images of walls made of glas bottles... looks great but uses a lot of cement - not sure about how to do it safely ho :(

13,500 wine bottles, thats a lot of hangovers to build a house.

This statement isn`t too accurate though, "He says by filling the bottles with water, the entire building will be insulated."
Thermal mass doesn`t equate to insulation

The bottle deposit here was done by the bottling companies in order to get back the reusable glass ones for refilling. When they went to plastic ones some cities and states institued bottle deposits to encourage recycling and reduce littering. In some areas it really helped, but it is still "hit and miss", many areas do not have any sort of bottle deposit.

There was a woman out in Kansas who made a small building out of bottles many years ago. (Maybe Down River Dan can find you something on it.) She didn't fill them with water, and wasn't particular about the direction the open necks were pointed, so when the wind blows over them you get the "whistling" like you used to get when we were kids!
