Post subject:  Automatic fish feeder

My feeder arrived today and I struck the 1st hurdle - no batteries  - had four D-cells handy tho :bigsmurf:

The feed mechanism is a rotating barrel which holds 1/2 cup of feed/revolution

Programmable bits:

4 separate feed times/day
up to 10 revolutions of the barrel/feed (1/2 cup to 5 cups of feed in 1/2 cup increments)
hold 45 cups of feed

Each revolution of the feed barrel takes ~30 seconds, the 1st 15 seconds activates a vibrator  to move food down to the barrel before scooping up the feed

I have 5mm Grobest pellets and 1 revolution dumped 35g of feed into the tray - this means a max of 350g/feed

fish feed is lighter than dog/cat food so a larger tank could be fitted to the food container and increase the food holding capacity

To convert to a fish feeder just means not fitting the food tray and allow the pellets to fall straight into the tank, this works coz I tried it and then spent time picking up the :beep: pellets

This could be used to feed the fish 52 weeks/year, just needs filling on a regular basis - my purpose in buying the feeder is for when I go away for an extended period (up to a week), so I won't be using it constantly

Batteries gone flat in the camera so will put up shots tomorrow but here is where I got it from SoldSmart

Yep - stops at the amount this starts at (max 30g per feed)

If you take 100 barra @ 100g ea requiring 7% of their weight/day that is 700g
2 feeds/day is 350g
3 feeds/day (normal) 233g
SP is 3% of fish weight/day

Some interesting comparisons (not trying to shoot you down Rope)
e-bay item
6" * 8" * 14" = 672 square ins (that might be the whole item)
holds 1kg of food
price $85 + freight

SoldSmart
food holder only 9" * 9" * 9" = 729 square ins (my food holder can hold the whole of their item)
holds 3.1kg of food
Price $71 inc freight to Brisbane

Unfortunately, this is where the normal auto fish feeders advertised fall down for AP use

Point taken Les.... hadn't even sat down to work it out like that.....

not sure how you worked this one out though ?

If ten cups - 350gm of feed and the unit holds 45 cups then isn't it...

350gm x 4.5 = 1575gm => 1.57kg????
