I just got sent some interesting information from an engineer who works for the Australian distributor of Firestone EPDM liners.

While he recommends them for small installations (Backyard) he said that for larger installations you need to be aware of the shrinkage rate and that while EDPM liners do last well insitu their resistance to tear after two years both above and below the waterline has been measured to halve.

This means that when liners are installed care must be taken to ensure that there are no areas under tension and that liners should probably not be reused. I mention this because people have marketed EDPM to me as 100% reusable "if care is taken to not puncture the liner when it removed and then reinstalled although even if you do just patch it which is really easy".

So while EPDM is a great liner it is not quite as great as the sales agent may expound.
