hi i was wondering about the pros and cons of using scoria as a grow bed media. As a plumber i use it a lot so have access to it at good price. it is very porous so lots of surface area for bacteria. |

I suppose a con could be that its a bit rough on the hands compared to smoother media types. Not that it should sway you from using it. |

Scoria is a great medium to use. There's many advantages (including price) but it is tough on the hands. There's a large thread that goes into more details: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2509 I'm using it in the side yard system. So far so good, but it's a new set up so still early days. |
