Howdy.

Am I mad or do these timers work on a 20ish minute ON interval? Looking at the mechanism I can see it's actually impossible for these to have a single 15 minute ON interval.

- to be ON, the trigger needs to be just slightly depressed
- the trigger is a triangular shape to allow smooth transition over the selected pin
- the width of the trigger is nearly two pins

So if the configuration is 15 mins OFF followed by 15 mins ON, the leading edge of the trigger will hit the ON pin while the trailing edge is only partially through the OFF pin area.

It would be accurate if the trigger had to be fully depressed, but neither of my timers require it.. duds?

My understanding is the timer "on" period.... is activated by the pin depression....as you say.... but that happens after an "off" pin...and ceases when the triangulation activation pin drops over the edge.... set by depression of a single 15 min increment pin....

I've run timed systems for 7 years.... never bothered to actually time the timer... can't see that it really matters...

+1 Rup.

All of my mechanical timers have "15min" pins/pegs/clips but the cycle time is usually somewhere between 13 to 22 mins (from observation over a long period, I never sat down and precisely measure each cycle :D ) In the long run, it doesn't matter... unless you've designed your system to have precise flows in which case you need to re-design your system as flows will change over time anyway.

Yep, I agree that in the context of water flow its not such a big deal. However, even with my very efficient pump, those extra 7 minutes will cost me over $40 a year. Maybe this is just a warning to energy conscience people?

That and the fact the green of the VB cans clashes with the blue of a truckie singlet!... but the red and white of the Export cans goes with anything... including a wide variety flanno patterns!
