Hey All,

Just a quick one, can anyone please direct to a members post or experiences on plumbing straight from an IBC tap for the same effects but instead of a SLO. Will the water just drain to the GB water discharge height or will it have a siphoning effect once going???

Thanks. :dontknow:

If you can plumb it up to the tap outlet it would work fine... as long as you put a 'T' piece on top of the upright, as per a normal SLO... but how are you going to stop your fish being sucked into it?... it would need a screen on the inside.

Why not go with a normal SLO... probably less work, expense and possibility of structural failure.

yeah, i was contemplating using the IBC tap at the bottom for evacuating solids waste in the FT, but as Mr Damage said, danger of my fish getting sucked out through that is really high.

Just get a hole saw and drill a hole for the SLO near the top of the tank. Plumb in the SLO and it'll draw up the solids. Only problem I've had with this method is that the SLO pipework needs to get to the bottom area of the IBC tank, which in my case isn't perfectly flat. (yet, it still seems to be doing the job ok - time will tell)

Or do you mean something like this?

I thought about using the IBC outlet for my IBC system too, but decided against it because:

1. There is a lot more friction with the bends and elevation, so there may be a build up of solids at the bottom of the U;

2. There would need to be a fitting for the outside of the IBC as well as some way to plumb the inside; and

3. It looks crap.

It's much simpler and cleaner to use a hole saw and coupling at the GB height.

Plumbing an external SLO through the IBC tap is as simple as.... and a "foot valve" installed inside....will screen the outlet...

Here's the parts for a 50mm...

Where does one buy the black threaded fitting in the second pic Rupe?

Ah, I get it - an outside SLO. That doesn't look too bad I suppose. Was the chicken fencing used to give the SLO support?

Got mine from a pond/irrigation place... part is an "S60 x 6 x 2 FBSP Adaptor"...

Bunson lists a couple of places in Perth here.... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11609&p=311929

And most plumbing shops should be able to source... mention of Reece in the same thread...

Yep, had it laying around.... but wasn't really necessary... as the 40mm pipe to the grow beds was secured anyway...
