It looks like I have managed to stuff up a seemingly straightforward order of a replacement pump part.

After determining that my Weipro pump failure was as a result of a worn impeller, I performed an internet search to find a source for the appropriate replacement part. I found a supplier that advertised that it stocked impellers for Weipro WH-10000 pumps (see pic) so I ordered and paid for one to be posted to me.

As you can see, the impeller that arrived in the mail is clearly not the correct one for my pump. When queried, the supplier stated in an email "Sorry, we only keep parts for the pumps sold by us." What am I missing here? Isn't a Weipro WH-10000 pump a Weipro WH-10000 pump, irrespective of who sells it? Are not replacement parts for a pump uniquely identified by that pump's model number?

I would appreciate any views on where I went wrong in order that I may improve my chances of getting it right next time.

You clearly did nothing wrong there PJ. If they are advertising parts for that model pump and thats the impeller you bought... well, what more can you do?

Its false advertising. Id be sending it back and demanding the correct part or money back.

I have been offered a refund for the cost of the impeller but not the cost of postage. Since it was $12.50 for the part and $12.55 for postage (one way, of course) it will cost me 5c more than my refund is worth for me to send it back for the refund, haha! You gotta laugh! ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

PLJ your old impeller looks in reasonable nick, whats the pump doing or not doing?

And if that supplier was from Ebay give them a crap review, and if it wasn't put the name up here.

Sleepe, I was using the pump in fairly 'rich' FT water rather than in a relatively clean sump as I did last year. The sponge clogged up quite quickly under these conditions and I was giving it a quick service every two or three days to keep it pumping adequately. I had to leave it for a fourth day one time and the pump had stopped by the time I go to it. I replaced it with my beautiful Laguna, which I had been saving for a more worthy task, but continued to turn the Weipro on and off occasionally, just in case it came back to life. Well, one day about three weeks after it failed it did just that - it fired up and started pumping again, albeit at reduced capacity, after I gave it a knock. Now, however, it was making a rattling noise as it pumped so I pulled it apart. The impeller is quite worn on one side of its plastic shaft, which condition I imagine throws it out of kilter as it rotates, hence the rattle. It is a good pump and very capable of driving one or even two IBC systems with its 3,400LPH nominal output. It pumped my biofilter return water on my big tank last year. It was given to me and owes me nothing but I deemed it worthy of repairing.

Went to the Weipro website and they don't even list the WH-10000 as a pump they make. Thats some of the problems with a lot of chinese companies. They change the design of a product without changing the product name. Poor documentation. Quality control sucks in China. Bite the bullet and buy another pump, IMHO.
