My electronic timer (http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... cts&page=1) has recently died, with catastrophic results :( It seems to function fine, except no pwer passes through, regardless of the setting!

To compound the problem, I replaced it with an old mechanical timer I had lying around, and it was also faulty! :cry:

So, anyone able to recommend a good mechanical or electrical timer? I'd prefer electrical, but can't trust that same model again. Wonder if this one http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... e=products is any good?

If you want to go digital I wouldn't touch any of the Bunnings timers. Over the years I've sold all the major brands, Arlec, HPM, Kambrook etc... all have had high return rates. The one you want is an Aquapro Heavy Duty Digital Timer... they have 30amp switching gear and running gear... I've sold plenty and (touch wood) have only had one returned... and many of my customers are running 600w, or even 1000w HID lights through them.

Thanks, but they only have 16 on/off cycles, I would need at least 20.

Gave up on mechanical (and digital) plug in timers and went for this setup. OK only has 16 settings but I have 2 in parallel, which will give 32 settings and if that is not enough add on another. One does daytimes and the other night. I also mounted a switch on the side so that can easily switch on and bypass the timer. Has been working for about 18 months now. I know CCBear has bought some and have to drop in on monday to wire up.

You say that, but i know those HPM ones quite well and know they only have 16 programs too. :wave:

Huh???... a 15 min increment mechanical timer.... has 24 interval options per day...

Are you referring to a digital HPM timer??

Yavimaya is referring to the HPM digital linked to in the IP... with 16 on/off cycles... that Ryangus was using until it crapped out.

Ok... yep if you going digital... the heavy duty hydroponics timers are probably the go... or a straight Din rail electronics component...

The problem with this sort of item is they are cheap, most people would never bother returning them, it may cost more in petrol for some people.

That's true... I didn't bother returning the two timers I've had fail in over 5 years...

Partly because the wouldn't have been covered by warranty anyway... and primarily, because they're cheap...

I just brought two of them at a time... and replaced them when necessary... thus saving the petrol... :lol:
