We have today installed a Dakota Power Failure Alert System along with wireless strobe and siren- something we should have considered doing earlier. Then we would not have lost four fish tanks full of rainbow trout when the trip switches inthe shed went off in the night unbeknown to us - :support:
The fish shed or aquadrome is 60 metres or so from the house and on a seperate circuit anyway, and we already have a back up system ie; generator for when we do have power cuts or failure which seems to happen with very annoying regular occurence.

Nice. Is there a link to a website for more information on this product?

My google search returned your post as the first hit. I managed to find this but it is only an online sales site. (most of the hits were about home and car alarms).

I was thinking about trying to get something along these lines, but one that calls your mobile phone when the power goes out. I'm just a bit too far away for an alarm to be heard.

There are a few I've found, but none in Aus yet.. This one sounds ok, can detect power outage temperature and water leakage... Then dials up to three phone numbers and tells you which of the three things is a problem..

Bloody good idea for an AP warning device, you can put the water sensors on the floor near the system..

We got the Dakota power failure alert -WR-3000 wireless receiver with wireless siren and strobe and a siren switch(on/off)
The mobile phone caller was no good for us as we only use our mobiles in emergencies.
These are made in China (isnt nearly everything?) and should be available world wide
There are also water warning alarms! And others....

Hope this helps.

Last night was the second time in the past year that we have been woken up to the siren sounding and the strobe light flashing to alert us to a power failure in the aquadrome.
With five large fish tanks containing precious trout and if we had not been alerted we would have found a nasty surprise waiting for us this morning (when we usually do our fist check of the day).
As we bustled off into the cold night in dressing gowns, jackets, wellingtons - and of course - torches- we must have looked like quite a sight!!!
We eventually isolated the problem and sorted it out - and we are so thankful that we purchased the alarm system - it has certainly been worth it !
Poor OH thought the end of the world was at hand being woken up from a deep sleep to the siren sounding!
So anyone considering a purchase of a power failure system - dont think twice - go for it.

WD
